Evaluation

Drawing is not something that I find easy, so I try to avoid it. When forced to face up to drawing I often find that I do actually enjoy it, and that I've got to stop thinking of it as something I cant do.
The drawing sessions have helped me to re-build some of the confidence that I had lost, especially after a long summer of not really drawing that much. The life drawing sessions were especially helpful for me, I found the time and pose restrictions challenging but ended up really liking some of the consequential results. Being given a focus for each drawing class, be it line, colour or perspective, helped me to broaden my drawing style and confidence.
This is a simple line drawing that I did at the site. Its the South Downs, but the Seven Sisers and Beachy Head to be more specific. I liked that you could see the old striped lighthouse in the distance. I have tried to be clean and bold with my use of line, but also include a bit of mark making.
This is a drawing that I have done from an inlarged photograph. Its a different perspective of the cliff face, from the bottom on the beach looking up, rather than on top of the cliffs themselves. Pencil is what I like to draw in most, and I tried to pick out the tonal qualities of the image when drawing it.
This was originally a quick pencil sketch that I did at the location, but I then traced the line with a thicker ink pen. I like the clean and sharpness of the drawing, but also how you still get an idea of perspective, and of the light reflecting off the water in the distance.
This is my least successful drawing I feel, as I found it really hard to get the perspective right. I still wanted to include it though, because the stripy lighthouse is a landmark of East Sussex and the South Coast.

beachy head

This is my favorite drawing that I've done recently, mainly because I really enjoyed doing it. It was done at the site, and I started it in pencil and then applied colour using my tiny travel water colour set. Its a picturesque view, and depicts the East Sussex Coast from my favorite perspective.
